Lucy Sugerman
Lucy Sugerman is not afraid to tell it like it is. Her sixth sense for storytelling coupled with a gift for crafting assured melodic hooks is a recipe for sweet pop that can still pack a punch. Youthful and addictive energy perpetuates Lucy’s music and presence at every turn, even in her most vulnerable moments. But while she’s only 21 years old, the self-managed artist possesses an impressive work ethic and dedication to staying honest to her art and herself - letting people into her world through relatable tales of her struggles and triumphs in romance and growing up, cathartically capturing the spirit in learning from your own experiences.
In 2020, Lucy first graced airwaves on ‘I’d Do It All Again’ co-written with LANKS as a part of his double album Spirits, shortly followed by receiving an APRA AMCOS Women in Music mentorship and her impressive debut solo single ‘i wanna kiss boys cos i’m bored’ (Hauskey & MUKI). 2021 saw the release of Sugerman’s debut EP ‘hurt that’s man made’, where she commandeered a team of creatives including Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe) and Dylan Nash (Dean Lewis, Meg Mac) right from inception to delivery, as well as live stints opening SummerSalt Festival and participating in APRA AMCOS SongHubs.
This year, Lucy won triple j Unearthed’s Groovin the Moo competition to perform at the festival, was named a triple j Unearthed Feature Artist and opened shows for the likes of Charley, George Alice and merci, mercy. Her versatility is evident from 2022 alone - co-writing and releasing ‘Headache’ with Thomas Porter (Dew Process), a tongue-in-cheek upbeat pop gem about an awkward dating exchange, garnering Spotify NMF, Pop n’ Fresh, softly and *hits different* playlisting, and duetting with AYA YVES on ‘Feels Alright’, a soft acoustic ballad written by Alex Lahey and Bri Clark.
