The Moving Stills

“It’s nice to have someone in your life that keeps you interested”

So goes the chorus for the new Moving Stills single. ‘Better’ is coast to coast warm and fuzzies and takes its inspiration from an Australian TV series (on SBS - Front Up), where the host walks the streets interviewing people. One of the interviewees talks about his outlook on love and his long distance love. He’s in Perth WA and she’s in Melbourne VIC. They’re apart and hey, it’s hard but he’s focussing on the good. The chorus (above), quotes the guy being interviewed.

Tommy says: “It’s a story about seeing the good despite the challenges in a relationship. We wrote ‘Better’ about that and how having someone in your life that you care about is a great thing. Focusing on how the other person makes you feel. Even when you’re missing them, knowing you’ll see each other again creates excitement.”

Sonically, Better’ sits on a bed of acoustic and shimmery guitars and incorporates a Tears For Fears kinda pop with layered synths that lift when the chorus hits. A feeling of bliss and euphoria that emanates through the production. The band recorded ‘Better’ at their local Central Coast studio The Grove. Working with Izaac Wilson (producer of previous single ‘Volcano’), to see them create tracks that refine their Alt-Pop sound.

The Moving Stills have had a year of it. They released their debut album 'Sunshine Corner' in Jan, then toured with a bunch of upcoming legends including Spacey Jane, Great Gable, Shag Rock and The Vanns. Along the way they accumulated hours and kms on the road and in the van. They also sold out a bunch of their own headline shows up and down the East Coast and became an accidental viral hit with their Tik Tok video covering Tears For Fears' 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World'. Album 2 is already on the way - and we’re hearing the singles now.
