Amos The Kid

Amos the Kid is not someone you’ll find fretting over details. The indie-country artist from Boissevain, Manitoba has made a career of going wherever things take him; now with two acclaimed EPs under his belt, he puts out music “when things feel good and the songs feel hot”. He’s the type of guy that, after someone started a rumour he was sprung from jail to make his slot at a music festival, said “folks will think what they think, better to let ‘em wonder” then spent the rest of the weekend helping tow people out of a muddy parking lot.

His ‘what will be will be’ mentality extends to the music; a clever wordsmith with a knack for a catchy melody, he is known to bring musicians he trusts to recording sessions and give them full control over their contributions. He put together his band by accident via a series of requests to more established artists to “stop by the studio sometime”; the revolving cast of characters each dropped in for a few hours and left with the sense that they’d stumbled upon something that they’d like to be a part of. Amos operates by chasing a feeling, a good lyric and a good melody, and building a trusted network of people to help him fill in the gaps.

His approach is clearly working; his pair of not-quite-country EPs, released on House of Wonders Records, have enjoyed hundreds of thousands of streams, glowing reviews, placements in film and on major Spotify playlists, and a string of sold-out shows in Winnipeg, the city nearest to his hometown. In 2022, he renewed his record contract with House of Wonders, which will cover an unannounced debut LP set to arrive next year.

Amos was the first artist to find his home on the label, and we’re honoured that we’ll continue to be his home for the next chapter of his career.” says Adam Fuhr, founder of House of Wonders. “I started this label by looking for interesting music made by interesting people, and Amos remains, to me, the perfect personification of that search. We can’t wait to share what’s next.”

Amos’ new single, ‘I’ll Set the Fire’, is the quintessential slow-burn Amos the Kid track; showcasing emotion and intimacy before growing into something as raucous as anything he’s made.

We thought that ‘I’ll Set the Fire’ exists really well on its own, and we’d give the song its moment so it doesn’t get drowned out by the more flashy stuff we’re sitting on,” says Amos. “If you’ve ever wondered what’s out there in the night you’re like me and probably everyone else. Fear and love are the same I guess, they lay together and mingle close to the flames, twisting into the darkness. I’m afraid of the night and you’re afraid of the dark. So I’ll take the first watch and watch your eyelids closely. ”

The song was produced, engineered, and mixed by Adam Fuhr (Yes We Mystic, Virgo Rising, JayWood) at House of Wonders, and mastered by Cam Loeppky (The Weakerthans, The Constantines). It is available on all streaming services November 18.
